Instructions
- Put your arms out in front of you with loose fists and a relaxed tall position.
- Raise your shoulders towards your ears if you were shrugging.
- Next push your shoulders forward as if you were squeezing the last inch out of a pushup.
- Let your shoulders drop to neutral as you continue to push your fists away from your body.
- Now lower your shoulders by pushing your shoulder blades down towards your lower back..
- You no longer need to be pushing your fists away from you. Let them return to a relaxed position an inch or so closer to your body as you press your shoulder blades further down.
- Start to bring your shoulder blades together as you gradually relax the downward pressure.
- Try to touch your shoulder blades together (you can’t, but try anyway).
- Relax the movement pulling your shoulders together as you raise your shoulders back into a shrug.
- Repeat for repetitions
- Reverse directions and repeat for repetitions.
Variation
- Until you can make smooth full circles in both directions, it may be helpful to just focus on the up and down motion independently of the in and out motion.
